Endowed Scholarships Offered Through the Office of Student Disability Services

Listed below are the awarding criteria for scholarships offered through the Office of Student Disability Services.  These endowed funds were established with the Oklahoma State University Foundation by donors wishing to provide scholarships to deserving OSU students and are awarded as funds are available.   We would like to encourage everyone who may qualify for these scholarships to complete an application.  To apply for these scholarships, complete the attached scholarship application.  Please place a check-mark by any or all of the scholarships(s) for which you want to be considered.  Be sure to attach any required documentation to your application.

Eugene Embry Scholarship for Students with Dyslexia

Recipients of the Eugene Embry Scholarship for Students with Dyslexia will be selected by the University General Scholarship Committee, based upon recommendations from the Student Disability Services Office.  The recipient must be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student at Oklahoma State University and must have been diagnosed under the dyslexia umbrella.  First selection preference shall be given to students who are enrolled in the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources.

The Scholarship Endowment for the Physically Limited

The Scholarship will be awarded to a student with a severe disability.  Disability will not be limited to requirement of special equipment or mobility.  First consideration may be given to individuals with quadriplegia or who are wheelchair-users.  Must be enrolled at Oklahoma State University.  It is not necessary to be a full-time student, but recipient must be making progress toward a degree.  A medical doctor’s statement of the disability must be included (appropriate documentation on file with SDS may be used).  Financial need will be a consideration.  Applicants must have a completed FAFSA on file with the OSU Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid.

Margueritte Starr Endowed Scholarship

Recipient must a deserving student with a disability.  Must be enrolled as a full-time student at Oklahoma State University.

Eleanor Young Jenkins Scholarship/Glen E. Jenkins Scholarship

These scholarships are available to incoming freshman or transfer students with physical disabilities.  Students should meet the following criteria: The student must meet the following criteria:

  • Must be enrolled as a full-time freshman or transfer student at OSU;
  • Must exhibit strong financial need;
  • Preference given to students with physical disabilities;
  • Must be an undergraduate student;
  • Recipient must remain in good academic standing to continue receiving the award; and
  • Applicant must be a U.S. citizen.

Paul Pulley Scholarship

The recipient must be enrolled as a full-time student at Oklahoma State University.  Preference shall be given to a student with a visual impairment or other disability.

Dexter Johnson Education and Benevolent Trust

Scholarship provided to deserving students based on need to complete their education in Oklahoma high schools, Oklahoma State University, Oklahoma City University, and the University of Oklahoma, giving preference to the following: (a) physically handicapped persons (b) students who by misfortune or calamity cannot complete their education. Each scholarship should be limited to no more than $5,000 per student per year.

Hoyt E. James Endowed Scholarship

Recipient(s) must have a minimum 2.5 high school gpa and must not receive private, state or federal financial aid exceeding 100% of the cost of attending OSU.  The recipient may be an undergraduate or graduate student and must be a United States citizen.  The recipient may continue to receive the scholarship for up to four years, provided he/she continues to maintain a minimum 2.5 gpa.  The student must exhibit at least one of the following

  • Experiencing impairment of vision, hearing or other sensory functions;
  • Has limitation to physical movements due to birth defects, injury, accident or illness;
  • Has impairment of mental or neural capacity;
  • Has a health condition seriously impeding and/or complicating participation in educational experiences normally a part of the course for which the student plans to enroll;
  • Preference shall be given to residents of Haskell county.
